In 1962, César Rigert founded Rigert Maschinenbau GmbH, initially specializing in transport and cable systems for wood and construction materials. About a decade later, the company developed its first wheelchair stairlift, leading to rapid growth and multiple patent registrations.

A strong connection between the Garaventa family, experts in cableway construction, and the Rigert family enabled the exchange of knowledge, helping Rigert establish itself in the American stairlift market. In the late 1970s, the company was split into two entities: Rigert Maschinenbau AG and Rigert Engineering AG. These later merged to become Rigert AG Treppenlifte.

In 2007, Benni Rigert sold his shares to Garaventa Lift AG, leveraging synergies in the industry. Since 2018, Garaventa Lift and Rigert have been part of the Savaria Group. For over 60 years, Rigert has been committed to enhancing mobility and accessibility.
