What is a stairlift exactly?

For people with disabilities or limited mobility, a stairlift is an essential solution. It allows effortless movement up and down stairs without the need to climb them. A stairlift consists of either an ergonomically designed seat or a platform that safely travels along a sturdy rail mounted on the staircase.

A stairlift offers great flexibility, as it can be adapted to various types of staircases. Whether straight or curved, there is a suitable solution for almost any architectural challenge. Our custom-made stairlifts ensure seamless integration into your existing environment.

With a stairlift from Rigert, you regain your quality of life. It reduces dependence on external assistance and provides the freedom to use your entire home without barriers.

Our stairlifts

Our extensive product range includes both inclined platform lifts and stairlifts with seats for indoor and outdoor use. They are suitable for both curved and straight staircases.

Stairlifts with seats

A stairlift with a seat consists of a comfortable chair that moves along a rail mounted on the staircase and is powered electrically. Our seat lifts can be customized to meet your individual needs, providing a convenient solution to make your home more accessible and barrier-free. We offer the following models:

For straight & curved indoor staircases

For straight & curved outdoor staircases

Customization options

At Rigert, you can choose from a variety of customization options to tailor your stairlift perfectly to your needs.

  • Electric folding rail (90-degree parking curve or folding rail)
  • Intermediate stop (allows the lift to stop at multiple positions)
  • Swivel seat function (manual or automatic swivel function)
  • Parking stop with charging station (charging and parking at different positions)
  • Wall-mounted installation (alternative to step-mounted installation)

Inclined platform lifts for wheelchair users

An inclined platform lift is specifically designed for individuals who rely on a wheelchair or larger mobility aids. Instead of a seat, these stairlift models feature lifting platforms that transport both the wheelchair and the user simultaneously. Equipped with access ramps and safety bars, the platform moves securely along a guided rail. In buildings without elevators, inclined platform lifts are essential for ensuring wheelchair accessibility.

We offer innovative inclined platform lifts that are ideal for wheelchair users with mobility restrictions. Our outdoor models are weather-resistant, providing protection against UV rays, rain, and sun. We offer the following inclined platform lift models:

How a stairlift works

Stairlifts for both indoor and outdoor use operate on the same principle.

  1. Basic principle: A stairlift is a transportation device for people or wheelchairs using a seat or platform, which moves along a rail attached to the staircase.

  2. Electric drive: An electric motor powers the lift and ensures smooth movement up and down the stairs. Even in the event of a power outage, operation is maintained through integrated batteries.

  3. Rail system: The rail is customized to fit the staircase. It serves as a guide and supports the weight of the lift.

  4. Operation: The lift is controlled via an external remote control or by using the controls located on the seat or platform. With the push of a button or the use of a lever, the lift moves in the desired direction.

  5. Speed: The lift moves at a constant, safe speed – neither too slow nor too fast.

Benefits of a stairlift for quality of life

Stairlifts that are tailored to your specific needs offer numerous advantages. The key benefits include:

Accessibility: A stairlift helps individuals with limited mobility navigate stairs safely and comfortably. This allows full access to all living spaces, making daily life significantly easier, especially in multi-story homes.

Safety: The risk of falling is minimized with safety belts. Automatic stopping when encountering an obstacle further enhances security. The "hold-to-run" principle ensures that the lift stops immediately when the switch is released. Additionally, our models are equipped with an emergency stop button.

Independence: People with mobility restrictions can move between floors without physical strain and without needing assistance. This reduces dependency and significantly improves personal quality of life.

Adaptability: Whether straight, curved, or narrow, stairlifts can be customized to fit any staircase. Their design can also enhance the aesthetics of the staircase, seamlessly combining functionality and style.

Ease of use: Our stairlifts are user-friendly, even for individuals with no technical experience. This makes them a practical solution for elderly users and those with physical limitations.

Space-saving design: Our models can be folded when not in use, ensuring they take up minimal space. This makes them ideal for installation in public buildings without causing obstructions.

Comfort: For individuals with back or joint issues, a stairlift or wheelchair lift allows pain-free and effortless movement between floors without assistance.

Cost of a stairlift

Providing a fixed price for a stairlift is difficult, as costs vary depending on the specific requirements of each installation.

To objectively evaluate the market and different providers while finding the best solution for your needs, consider these four key factors:

  • Your available budget.
  • The quality of the stairlift.
  • The necessary adaptation to the environment and user.
  • The level of customer service provided.

The complexity of the installation plays a significant role in pricing. Factors such as the type of staircase (straight or curved), indoor or outdoor installation, the number of floors, the chosen model, the width of the staircase, and additional features all influence the final cost.

Estimated stairlift costs

The following price ranges provide a rough estimate. For a precise offer, please contact us.

Stairlifts with chair

  • A stairlift for a straight staircase with a standard rail starts at CHF 6,000 per floor.
  • For curved staircases, prices start at approximately CHF 10,000 per floor.

Inclined platform lifts

  • A platform lift for a straight staircase starts at around CHF 12,000 per floor.
  • For curved staircases, prices begin at approximately CHF 17,000 per floor.

Subsidy from health insurance, AHV, or IV

In Switzerland, coverage by disability insurance (IV) depends on age. If the person is already of retirement age, costs are generally not covered. Before reaching retirement age, cost coverage is likely in most cases, provided the necessity can be plausibly demonstrated.

Health insurance does not provide subsidies for stairlifts under basic insurance. However, coverage may be possible through supplementary insurance. The AHV (Old Age and Survivors' Insurance) also does not cover stairlift costs.
